The use of the Internet in Saudi Arabia helps Saudi people watch Japanese anime. Therefore, the interest of watching anime has been flourishing and creating anime fans in Saudi Arabia. However, there is very limited research conducted on Japanese anime in Saudi Arabia despite its popularity. This study employs the Cultivation Theory as a framework to investigate how Saudi anime fans perceive Japanese culture as a result of exposure to Japanese anime. More specifically, it seeks to discover whether anime encourages Saudi anime fans to learn Japanese and to visit Japan. In addition, this study utilizes the Spiral of Silence Theory to explore whether anime fans express their love for anime on Twitter. The finding confirms the Cultivation Theory that heavy Saudi anime fans are more likely to see the reflection of Japanese society through anime than light anime viewers. It also emphasizes that the more Saudi anime fans watch anime, the more they desire to learn Japanese language and visit the country. Moreover, the results indicate that Saudi anime fans’ Twitter use is negatively related to their fear of negative feedback from others regarding watching anime. The current study provides important implications for both the anime and tourism industries.
